The first section of the new Finkenberger Almbahnen cable car will be completed in good time for the 2017/18 winter season. Originally built in 1987, the 4-seater cable car is being replaced by a state of the art shuttle lift service. The new 10-seater Finkenberg I gondola lift is simply unparalleled in terms of comfort. The latest generation from the world’s market leaders in cable car construction, Doppelmayr, is setting trailblazing cableway standards in the Zillertal Valley with this new 10-seater gondola lift.
Passengers will be whisked up and over almost 900 m in elevation gain from the valley to the mountain terminal in only 7 minutes. The conveyance capacity will more than double that of the old cable car, with the potential to transport 2,400 persons per hour, banishing queues to a thing of the past. With a maximum speed of 6 m per second, 56 spacious cabins will traverse 13 new support towers along a 1,780 m incline ascent towards the sun-drenched Penkenjoch.
All cabins can comfortably accommodate 10 persons, with heated seats and entertainment “de rigueur”. The entire cable car route is equipped with Wi-Fi, so you can share unforgettable views of the Zillertal mountains immediately as you “surf” up to the peaks. In order to control passenger flow more effectively and facilitate faster and easier access to the cable car, the gondolas will transport all skiers. Wheelchair friendly entry to the gondola enables not only quick and effortless access for wheelchair users, but also families with pushchairs. The entire new Doppelmayr system is based on future-orientated cableway technology, the so-called D-Line. The D-Line offers first class facilities, with the highest level of passenger comfort, low-noise operations, simple and time-saving maintenance and much more.
The old base terminal in the heart of Finkenberg at 875 metres above sea level has been demolished and replaced by a modern and innovative base station building. The extensive car park remains unchanged, and will connect perfectly with the new building. The entire cash desk area is to be adapted, making it easier for all guests to access and begin their ski or hiking day. As in the case of the valley terminal, the existing mountain station will be dismantled and rebuilt at the same location. The motor will be housed in the mountain terminal, which will also garage the cabins. The hydraulic tensioning system is planned to be housed in the base terminal. The new base station and top terminal buildings will also be equipped with a first-aid room.
The construction period is scheduled to last from the end of April to mid-November 2017, meaning the new system will be ready to open in time for the new winter season on 2nd December 2017. During the construction period, the 2nd section of the Finkenberger Almbahnen is open to hikers and mountain bikers from1st July to 8th October 2017.
